Favourite albums of 2002?

Post by Rich The Donkey Doctor »

Ok, I know many of you will say 'Outpost Transmission' is the best (although not sure it counts since it came so late!) but what are everyones fave tracks and LPs for 2002?

I recently got round to buying Royksopp's 'Melody AM' having been aware of several of the tracks for some time, and was blown away by the warmth of the melodies and sounds floating about. Re-released from last year on the back of growing hype, this is a classic because it touches everyone who listens without resorting to cheesy gimmicks, and is made by two producers who clearly love what they are doing.

High Contrast's 'True Colours' comes second, followed by Sasha's 'Airdrawndagger'. Underworld's knocking around somewhere aswell, particularly the single '2 Months Off'.

Compilation-wise, Tom Middleton's 'Cosmos' 3 disc bonanza was the killer, as was Rae & Christian's 'Another Late Night'...

My Top 10 albums of 2002 (in no particular order) are:

808 State 'Outpost Transmission'
Roni Size 'Touching Down'
Afrika Underground 'Jazz, Funk & Fusion Under Apartheid'
Chemical Brothers 'Come With Us'
Funky Monkey 'Join Us In Tomorrow'
Gab Olivier (& other assorted DJ's/producers from the Melbourne massive, Australia) 'No Nonsense'
Phil K 'Balance 004'
Sasha 'Airdrawndagger'
Mr. Scruff 'Trouser Jazz'
Homelife 'Flying Wonders'

From what I've been doing and where I've been going it's been a pretty good year for music - there's still plenty amazing tunes out there!

top 5 albums in no real order:

Sasha 'Airdrawndagger'
My Computer 'Vulnerabilia'
Kid 606 'The Action Packed Mentallist Brings You The f***ing Jams'
Lo Fidelity Allstars 'Don't Be Afraid Of Love'
Junkie XL 'Saturday Teenage Kick' (actually out in 1997 but re-released this year)

plus top comp is also Tom Middleton 'Cosmos', absolutely astounding.

I've only had my 'OT' a couple of weeks so I'm still getting familiarized with it, it'll no doubt be on next years list.
