Following on from the ZTT remastered singles collection last week we ended up in 1998 when we put out a 10 year retrospective “808 88 98”
In 2011 a second retrospective “Blueprint “ was released on CD with extensive sleeve notes ,interviews with other leading electronic artists about 808 s pioneering work in a great artwork package . Due to recent record company migration it means Blueprint has been deleted from the catalogue.
Today we present a new and up to date collection entitled ESP The 808 State Effect .
Many of the Blueprint “Revisited” mixes remain ,some special licenses have been omitted .
You would have chosen a different set of tunes ,I know! But you now have a much more comprehensive 808 State archive to assemble your personal playlists from.
It would be great to see it in physical form , we were thinking triple vinyl box set when we started the project ,but in this present version of the world its digital only .

What is ESP? It's the Ninety era via Pacific State (Origin Edit), Cübik (Original Mix), and Cobra Bora (Revisited). It's ex:el, with In Yer Face (Revisited), Ooops, Olympic (Word Production Mix), and Lift (7" Mix). And it's also the first time the 7" mixes from the MC Tunes era have hit digital platforms, with The Only Rhyme That Bites (Rap), and Tunes Splits The Atom (Rap). We then close out with two of the most monstrous audio tracks released in the name of Gorgeous: Timebomb (808 Tape Mix) and Nimbus (Revisited).
And that's just one way of listening to ESP. The other is Disk 2, with starts with what feels in hindsight like a refraction of Pacific State in a time window: Lopez (Original). Followed by two other thoughts of Don Solaris, Azura (Radio Edit) and Bond (Radio Version). We then reminisce over the last vestiges of the rave era with Gorgeous’s Plan 9, One In Ten (the 808 7") and 10x10, before remembering quite acutely where the train of ESP thought went next with Invader (Original Mix) and Outpost Transmission's Long Orange (here in its new ESP Mix) and Quincy's Lunch (Revisited).
We play out with a summary of 808 State's ESP in the present day: Tokyo Tokyo and Ujala from Transmission Suite and, as a bonus track, Bicep's recent remix of In Yer Face.
ESP is a thought that never ends. So this project may well be revisited one day, on vinyl, CD, or in space. In the meantime, Zang Tuum Tumb would like to thank Graham Massey and Ian Peel for compiling The 808 State Effect, Philip Marshall for his design effect and The Dream Department at the Organisation of Pop for its love and support across the last 21 weeks of consecutive 808 State digital deep-dives.
