That would be the 'select character' music used in 'Sonic the Hedgehog Chaos' on the Sega Master System, obviously extended and used as part of a more extended work. So with that, no, I've no idea why it reminds you of playing computer games.

Whomever the MIDI belongs to, it's pretty good for a 5th MIDI, I suppose. Not that 4-to-the-floor-almost-minimalism is that hard to produce...

Oh, and here's the original, if interested. Ah, nostalgia...

No it's Lift by 808 State...

I think 808 State came before Sonic the Hedgehog

I'm suspiscious of this.
This game is so popular, I'm sure people would have noticed it before.
It has to be confirmed, 'cos lift midi file has been around since ever.

Who made this mp3, was it u Melody Nelson? If so, from what phase is it from?

I just played Sonic Chaos. It's from 1993 and the 808 tune Lift starts playing (as heard in the mp3 above) right after you press start after this title screen
