Prebuild article - in this month's Mojo Magazine
Hi... Hopefully you've spotted Stuart Aitkin's excellent Prebuild article in the new edition of Mojo that came out this week. It's in their Buried Treasure section...
In fact the article is on Newbuild, not Prebuild.
I cannot share your enthusiasm. The article is nice in the way it praises Newbuild but hardly brings many new insights. It focuses mainly on Gerald's & Graham's quotes, many of which I feel we've heard before. Hearing what Martin has to tell would really have interested me. However there's no more than one sentence by Martin. Stuart let's us know that Martin left the band in 1992 to manage The Kaliphz. Great, but was has he been up to since?
And it would not have been Stuart Aitken if he hadn't once again taken the opportunity to dig out the old dirt of the Pacific royalties (what have they got to do with Newbuild?). Was it really necessary to use even the callout quote of the article for the '4Q 808' mention? Aitken seems obsessed with the (long solved) dispute. Another example is this article he recently wrote for Undercover magazine in which he managed to copy large amounts from a 1989 NME (uncredited - pun intentional) and made it look like Gerald said these things in 2004...
I doubt many readers of the purely Rock/Punk-oriented Mojo mag have ever heard of 808 State, so for them it may be new & interesting and it may even attract some new fans. Also it's pretty cool that it's a buried treasure, but it could have been better in my opinion. I get the feeling either the interviews where edited down heavily to fit into Mojo or he's been collecting old quotes again.
I personally thought buying the mag was a waste of money (unless your into Sid Vicious, Guns n'Roses etc), so instead of people going out and wasting more money, I'm uploading an image of the 808 article for you to judge for yourself.
For the spotters: It's Mojo issue 135, February 2005.

I have to add that looking back at the 2004 news I had forgotten about a rather good article by Stuart on Prebuild. What - no mention of any GCG vs 808 hatred?
mojo article
haven't posted on here for a while, been too busy arseing around backpacking and moving to the north-west. rains a lot over here doesn't it? don't worry markus i'm still supporting the toon (for my sins).
my brother is a drummer in a rock band and he reads mojo, he sent me the article which thought was ok actually. markus, i think to be fair stuart does say at the end that there's no animosity between them and gerald and graham have even spoken about working together again - which is why i'm back here to ask if there is any truth in the rumour. it would be something i'd definitely be interested in

Well they've been working together on the Prebuild album. Apart from that I think they were planning on doing a live gig together with the Aphex Twin, don't know if it will happen. If they are actually going to write new things together? I don't think in the near future, maybe one for Graham to answer.
