Spare MC TUNES The North At Its Heights CD

Post by markus »

I stumbled across the 1990 'The North At Its Heights' CD in a second-hand store last weekend. Over the years, this has been the most asked after CD on the 808 forums, but maybe in the meantime everyone has found a copy? To my knowledge it's the only 808 ZTT CD that was never re-pressed / re-issued. There was once talk of a German sublicensed re-issue, but it never came off.

This is the Euro edition (GE/FR/UK, Made in Germany). As far as I know only this edition and the Japanese one exist.

If anyone is interested, send me a private message.

It's funny. This CD is so rare. I found mine in a bargain bin circa 1997. I literally passed the bin on the street and Tunes was sitting in front so it caugt my eye. The book was, however, suffered from moist being outdoor.

Now gone to a good home. Strangely this took a year. On eBay it seems to go for up to 20 pounds quite regularly.

What's the general consensus on this album........any good? :-?

Only really remember The Only Rhyme That Bites and vaguely Tunes Splits The Atom.

Good album. Obviously music-wise heavily 808 sounding with Mr Tunes growling over the top of some great tracks.

Recommended listening. Techno meets rap - is there anything else out there quite like it?

I wouldn't say it's 808 at their best...but an achievement like Pacific or Cubik is hard to replicate. The singles (Tunes Splits The Atom, The Only Rhyme That Bites) are essential for 808 fans. I like Dance Yourself To Death :)

The remix of Only Rhyme... (The Only Rhyme That BYtes) is quality too, if you can find it...
