There was a meeting @ URBIS InTHE CITY last tuesday of MDMA or the Manchester District Music Archive, Its an Idea to have a museum of Manchesters music from past centurys to the present day. The meeting was well attended ,many
faces from the past and present there to support the idea.
It aims to make available hundreds of hours of film and interview, all music ever recorded from.Objects (Im thinkinking of donating our atari ST),artworks
Theres a possability of some more G mex footageand a home for other 808 related film archive,(even may be the mc tunes documentary that never was finished) This may all be one day accesable by internet users ,and as a permenant collection somewhere in Mcr.The initial impeteus being a collection of stuff left by Rob Gretton when he died. Dave Roffe has something to do with organising it (Ex Biting Tongues soundman /808 roadie now manager of the Doves and longtime robs records guy.also ran DFM label rd209 acid single etc. Guy Garvey was on the panel along with Jon Savage(anyone got that Granada programme celebration about Mcr music by him from 94 ,)
Mark Radcliff etc ,Basically just getting a reaction to the Idea and if there is enough momentum funding can be hopefully achived .So if y all like the concept support it by checking in at their website ..More to follow as it developes

Methylenedioxymethamphetamine
I was kind of wondering about the Methylenedioxymethamphetamine reference in there. But it does sound like a really good idea, obviously Gerald's original TR-808 should be donated.

From memory, I think he's turned it into a clock!obviously Gerald's original TR-808 should be donated
But, yeah, the MDMA (lovely name!) would be superb - in terms of the physical and virtual items involved (maybe the Ed Barton documentary as well as the Tunes one?)
If all bands past and present particpated in this, then it would be great - from the Buzzcocks, to Factory artists, to The Smiths, 808, Gerald, Madchester, Doves, etc.
Looking forward to this - I think there's some images/reports of the seminar on the Cerysmatic Factory site - linked from the MDMA site in the news section - worth reading/watching.
