I'm new to 808 State and would appreciate some suggestions.
First, what might be the "definitive/best" version of the single "Pacific State" to buy, and what CD is it on?
Second, what's a good CD(s) with the heavy input of Gerald Simpson?
Third, what might be a good CD(s) with strong input of Bjork?
My own taste runs toward fabulous rhythm combined with haunting voice on top.
Thanx everybody.

That depends on personal taste, but if you haven't got the CD 'Utd. State 90' yet, that would be recommended as it features three versions of Pacific. Other from that the definitive Pacific CD is the US Tommy Boy promo with six versions, hard to find, see posting http://www.808state.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1095.First, what might be the "definitive/best" version of the single "Pacific State" to buy, and what CD is it on?
The Prebuild and Newbuild CDs. But don't expect any vocals on theseSecond, what's a good CD(s) with the heavy input of Gerald Simpson?

Although I like good music of all genres, techno in general never made much of an impression on me. That is, not until about a year ago when I discovered the music of Gerald Simpson--and liked it so much I bought all the GCG CDs I could find. From the Net I learned he started in 808 State. So in other words, I kind of backed into 808 by accident. I'm also intrigued that 808 was apparently in the vanguard of techno; pioneers so to speak.
Thanks for your very specific suggestions about where to start listening.
The only 808 I have at this point is a CD called "Cubik," which I find good but not great. But I'm ordering more stuff from the Net, since there's nothing in my favorite (and very well-stocked) indie record shop in DC.
