Those alternative OT are excellent. The OT is artwork is my least favourite - it's the back I don't like. The silver writing on the mish-mash background doesn't seem to go with the front.
My favourite all-round package has to be Don Solaris. The feel of the paper, the plastic sleeve, and it includes the butterfly logo which should be brought back as a matter of urgency.

The back will be my fault ,I liked the Alien Image which is in fact a pair of headphones sparyed around with paint . But it all looked a bit Dark and forboding with the brown on the back .The back is actualy from a piece of Art I made in the Freezer involving left over food Jelly and seeds,you freeze it and then scan it dirrectly into your computer at high res.
There s a few more from my freezer in that Bjork art book that came out a few years back. we had to fight to get the coverless cover (art work dirrect on disc ,and it did backfire a bit in that lots got returned as people thought something was missing.. I think Jon Walsh was up for some award on that one or it was in a best of the year type book so someone liked it ,
Any one got that book Techno Style ,it has Newbuild ,ex el and Gorgeous
in full 12 inch format (well may be 10 ) loads of designers Republic..Orb

Id just got Photoshop at that stage so Knocked something up rough and Matt Maitland at WEA took it from there, You may recognise some of the other images taken from our Home Movies , It came out a bit murkier than we expected I guess he went for an aged look , It was more like the Thermo Kings Colours Origenaly..I like the Bond !2 inch also based on this
Lopez by him also with just the wish bone left was cute, Azura is infact the Falopian Tube of a chicken..We didnt use an egg anywhere

My all time favourite 808 art are:
- The old skool 808 logo (Mexico 70 style).
- The Pacific sleeve, especially the back of the 12" (the huge wave), I can stare at it for ages. Would love to hear the story behind it.
- The 90 sleeve. Fascinated to learn that it was inspired by Purdey's (presumably the silver colour). Can I just remind everyone at this point that I'm still looking for the poster? I saw it in 1992 at the Cornerhouse in Manchester (Sublime - Manchester Music and Design 1976-1992 exhibition) and fell in love with it. I've got the CD, the LP, the Video, the Laserdisc, the cassette, but in thirteen years I have not managed to track down the poster. I would love to hang it next to my New Order Technique poster...
By the way, here's a quote from the catalogue of said exhibition:
"For 808 State's Ex:el LP and 'In Yer Face' single both (1991), Johnson / Panas' sleeve took on the look of the logo, type and composition of a well-known cassette tape manufacturer, the form embodying the magpie inspiration and digital sampling techniques of Manchester's premier Techno-pop outfit."
Somehow I always thought the 'well-known cassette tape manufacturer' was SONY. I suppose the best-known back then was maxell, but can't see any resemblance there. Graham?
So my heroes are Johnson / Panas, Mark Farrow and of course Peter Saville. PeteZarustica, surely I'm misreading your posting regarding Peter Saville (the man behind the godlike New Order sleeves)? This to me is almost blasphemy:

Yessssssssssssss you are.. actually I wrote it in a way that only works in my mind. Peter Saville is god. Not only to me, he actually is. I'm having some kind of forum dislexia really, I meant something totally different.
Some of the Johnson & Panas work can be found on the Cerysmatic Factory site. But I never saw anything really outstanding besides the 808State artwork - especially if you consider most of their published work are just a shadow of Peter Saville's work in Factory.

Ah yesthe In yer face sleeve is in fact based around the TDK SA90 cassette
one of the most durable formats known to man ,I still have SA s from the 70s that play fine. yes i was really pleased with that cover, not shure it suited the reversed colours on the facialy yours remix.
Pacific cover image is from a photo library,or image bank..back then before Photoshop this was a comman method of whipping up a cover quickly and cheaPly,not shure who did that one probably WEA or may be Paul Morley, You can probably still access these Image Banks somewhere and you d see loads of recognisable images..The 90 fish and eclipse .
Not many of the street posters survive do they ,for all these releases

I like the ex:el album artwork. Neat, clean, simple and you just know that the album is going to be great. Have any of you seen the meteorological poster from which "Forecast" 's sleeve may have been cribbed?

Well, coincidently (on the subject of posters), I've just managed to pick up two from ebay (US Ex:El one with picture of band and advertising the video, LP at the bottom, and a US one - multicoloured - which just says '808' in large at the bottom). Must try and find some space on my walls now (might frame them, so as not to spoil them with bluetak, and chance of ripping)?
Anyway, yes, TDK SA-90's were the cassettes which my Dad always used to use (working in sound, he always had an ear for good quality cassettes). We've still got a lot of them around the place, and they still sound excellent even after all these years!
I would love a copy of the Gorgeous poster that's also currently on ebay, but $50 (plus postage from US to UK) is a bit too much at the moment... If it's still there in a month or two (Ebay Sellers), then I might go for it!
Finally, if I see one of those UTD State 90 posters, Markus, you'll be the first to know!
